Minnesota Ready to Host the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship

Fans celebrate World Juniors’ move to Minnesota as 2026 tickets go on sale

The ceremonial puck pass marking the transition of the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship from Ottawa to Minnesota recently took place, signifying the official handoff to the host of the 2026 tournament. The historic moment, celebrated on the final day of this year’s World Juniors, reflects the deep-rooted passion for hockey in Minnesota, the State of Hockey.

“We’re thrilled to host the 50th anniversary of the World Juniors next year,” said Pat Kelleher, executive director of USA Hockey, in a recent press release. “With the support of our partners here in Minnesota, we know fans from around the world will have an unforgettable experience.”

The 2026 World Junior Championship will take place Dec. 26, 2025, through Jan. 5, 2026, at St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center and the University of Minnesota’s 3M Arena at Mariucci.

As part of the press event, the Great Minnesota Puck Pass video premiered, showcasing submissions from over 150 fans, including prominent Minnesotans like Gov. Tim Walz, Sen. Karin Housley, and hockey legends Lou Nanne and members of the Wild, Gophers, and local communities. The video celebrates the excitement and pride Minnesotans have in hosting this prestigious tournament.

St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “This tournament will bring world-class hockey to our city while showcasing St. Paul’s vibrant community on the global stage. We’re ready to welcome the next generation of stars and their fans to the State of Hockey.”
