A Very Fair-Trade Holiday

What: Fair Trade Holiday Market
When: Through December, times vary (closed Monday and Tuesday)
Where: 2516 NE Central Ave., Minneapolis

Small businesses need help, and this fair-trade market for fashion accessories is one way to feel extra good about your holiday purchases. Fair Anita, Elevat, Global Mamas, and Trade Winds will be there, along with festive displays.

Elf & the Gnome

What: Drive-in Holiday Movies at the Gnome
When: Dec. 11-12, 6 p.m.
Where: The Gnome Pub, 498 Selby Ave., St. Paul

Food critic Jason DeRusha loved the Gnome Pub enough to name it the best restaurant patio of 2020. It continues to leverage outdoors capacity with drive-in holiday movies, starting with Elf this weekend. Reserve a spot for your vehicle, order curbside, and replenish snacks throughout the film.

Flip Phone’s Pet Party

What: Digital Pet Dance Party & Holiday Pet Costume Contest
When: Saturday, December 12, 8-10 p.m.
Where: Online (Zoom link via Facebook)

You’d think it’d be a hard year for party and concert purveyor Flip Phone, but here they are with a “digital pet dance party.” (They’re also doing plenty of digital drag brunches, including one devoted to Dolly and Whitney this weekend.) As they would if First Ave were open, they’re hosting a holiday-themed pet costume contest as part of the fun, too. How does it work? With a Zoom link, of course.

Under the Dreidel

What: Dreidel Wonderland Drive-Thru Havdalah & Hanukkah Extravaganza
When: Saturday, December 12, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Where: Adath Jeshurun Congregation, 10500 Hillside Ln. W., Minnetonka

To celebrate the end of Shabbat and Hanukkah, PJ Library and the Adath Jeshurun Congregation are setting up a drive-thru experience, where families can tune their radios into Hanukkah music, drive under an enormous dreidel, and see other light-up displays. (The Adath building is closed, so no bathrooms will be open.)

Streaming Sugar Drops

What: Davina & the Vagabonds: A Lovenest Holiday
When: December 12, 8 p.m.
Where: Online with stream ticket

In the second session of this Hook & Ladder concert series, blues-and-jazz group Davina & the Vagabonds stream a holiday-themed show. (Read our profile on the fabulous singer and her 2019 album Sugar Drops here.)
