If Valentine’s Day is good for anything (besides the candy, flowers, adorable cards, and spending time with loved ones), it’s the opportunity to dress up in pretty pinks, ruby reds, or deep purples with a makeup look to match. To help you get ready for the day, I reached out to Andrea Peña of That Andrea Life, a beauty, fashion, and lifestyle blogger based out of Minneapolis. (She works fulltime and goes to law school at night, too, which officially makes her an inspiration in every sense of the word). I asked if she would share some of her favorite lipsticks for Valentine’s Day and below are her choices, perfect for office wear, a dinner with some of your closest friends, or a romantic date with your love later in the evening. — Katie Ballalatak
Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipstick – Lust for Blush: “For my budget Bettys that want a hint of pink, this lipstick from Maybelline is perfect. The shade is a beautiful blush pink with a hint of lilac. It’s not too colorful but it’s also not your average pink shade. The formula is creamy so you won’t have the dry uncomfortable tugging on the lips when it applies, and it leaves your lips with a matte finish that’s sure to last for hours.”
Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick – Pillow Talk: “One lipstick you can’t ever go wrong with is a good nude pink. It gives the perfect amount of color to your lips but isn’t too much for someone just starting out in makeup or someone who is not used to wearing color. This lipstick formula feels hydrating on the lips, provides a comfortable matte finish, and is paraben [preservative] free.”
Too Faced Tutti Frutti Juicy Fruits Comfort Lip Glaze – Homeslice: “Metallic lips have been all the rage this past year, and if you want to try this trend out without going full metallic, this lip glaze is perfect for you. The base of the gloss is a petal rose shade but mixed in with the formula are small gold metallic shimmers. Gold shimmer on the lips help give the lips a juicier and fuller effect, but since the base of the lip glaze is still a petal rose, it will just look like a colorful gloss. This lip glaze is fruit scented, cruelty free, and lightweight.”
Kat Von D Liquid Lipstick – Mother: “For my babes that love color this dusty mauve pink is for you. These liquid lipsticks are so pigmented and smooth when applied then dry down to a matte finish. Even though they dry as a matte, the formula still feels lightweight on the lips and I love that these last an incredibly long time. Through food, drinks, and kisses, your lipstick will still look great.”
Sephora Cream Lip Stain – Strawberry Kissed: “A classic go-to for most people on Valentine’s Day is a red lipstick, but what I love about this one is that it’s not your traditional red lip. This bold lip stain is the perfect mix of red and pink because it’s more of a strawberry red. The formula is a silky creamy texture that leaves your lips with a long lasting comfortable matte finish. A great product if you want a subtle change from the red and want to be sure your lipstick will keep looking beautiful for longer.”
