Building a Holistic Approach to Health

Improve your wellness with the help of age-old practices, cutting-edge therapies, and local food sellers

Whether it be from work, or the environment, or elsewhere, everyday stressors can make it hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Then, throw in many Americans’ desire for quick fixes that provide only temporary relief. Fortunately, Minnesota boasts one of the healthiest populations in the country, with everything from spas to food co-ops that will help you improve not only your physical health, but your mental and emotional health, too.

Meditation and Mindfulness Centers

Minnesota Zen Meditation Center: Learn more about Zen Buddhist meditation at this Minneapolis center. Not only can members take part in daily mediation practices, but also attend workshops, retreats and more.

Common Ground Mediation Center: Common Ground specializes in the practice of mindfulness. In the Lovingkindness Practice Group, participants will train in Buddhism’s four divine abodes: loving-kindness (metta), compassion, empathetic joy, and equanimity. If you’re interested in something that includes exercise, try Common Ground’s Mindful Yoga sessions.

Metta Meditation Retreat Center: Sometimes, holistic healing takes more than a daily meditation session. Metta Mediation’s retreat center is less than two hours from the Twin Cities, settled on 37 acres of Minnesota woodlands and prairies. The center regularly hosts weekend retreat programs, as well as personalized retreat options.

Spas and Wellness Studios

Awaken For Wellness: If you’re looking for evidence-based wellness treatments, Awaken For Wellness offers both traditional and cutting-edge services at locations around the Twin Cities and Hudson, Wisconsin. Seasonal allergies? Give salt therapy a go. Need a break from your busy schedule? Take an Epsom salt float.

Tula Organic Spa + Shop: This Minneapolis spa’s energy practitioners use Reiki—a non-invasive therapeutic approach—to heal mental, emotional and physical imbalances. Plus, they offer massage therapy, facials, and a variety of wellness products.
