Sue Z.’s Edible Hot Tips

Kieran’s Kitchen—bearing the famous name of the former owner of the Local, the Liffey, and Kieran’s Irish Pub—has now taken over the former Draft House in the Food Building on 14th and Marshall in northeast Minneapolis. Here, Kieran Folliard has housed the likes of Alemar Cheese, Red Table Meat Co., and Baker’s Field Flour & Bread to fuse a “maker-to-table” eatery concept right in the very building.

Beginning this October, starting at 8 a.m., you will find hot breakfast items featuring innovative sandwiches, French toast, and more from Baker’s Field, and fresh bacon sausages from Red Table. Fresh doughnuts, pastries, and Dogwood coffee and drinks start at 7 a.m. The lunch and dinner menus feature soups, salads, sandwiches, freshly made pastas, and, of course, lots of cheeses, sausages, and baked goods. Ian Gray is the executive chef for this innovative cafe, bar, and market spot—which has also expanded its event space to accommodate weddings, meetings, and other activities, all with in-house catering.

Sue Zelickson (Sue Z.) is a James Beard Award-winning food media personality, philanthropist, and longtime contributor to Minnesota Monthly and WCCO radio. She has founded the Charlie Awards, the Women Who Really Cook networking organization for women in the local food industry, and the Kids Cafe at Perspectives, Inc., which improves access to nutritious meals for families in need. You can find her buzzing around from event to event throughout the Twin Cities, helping to raise funds for charitable organizations, including some she has had a hand in building.
