This holiday season, dive into Minnesota’s rich sports history with the “Minnesota Sports Hall of Fame Experience”, a special limited-time exhibit now open at The Dayton’s Project in downtown Minneapolis. Through Dec. 28, visitors can explore the state’s sports legacy through six distinct eras, featuring iconic athletes, teams, and moments that have shaped the sports landscape, from Olympic gold medals to professional championships.
This pop-up exhibit, presented by the Minnesota Star Tribune, the Minneapolis Foundation, Meet Minneapolis, the Hennepin History Museum and Mich’s Markets, showcases powerful
images and artifacts, including photos from legendary Star Tribune photographers and a special collection of items from renowned sports columnist Sid Hartman’s office.
“The Minnesota Star Tribune is honored to bring our longstanding Minnesota Sports Hall of Fame to life in this historic location in the heart of downtown Minneapolis,” said Steve Grove, Publisher and CEO, in a recent press release. “We’re tremendously grateful to our partners at Meet Minneapolis and the Minneapolis Foundation for their collaboration in building this unique experience for all of Minnesota.”
Walk through the exhibit and experience:
- Early Milestones: The origins of Native American sports, along with key “firsts” in Minnesota athletics.
- The Biggest Game in Town: University of Minnesota football’s historic impact.
- Gold Medal State: Celebrating Minnesota’s Olympic heroes, past and present.
- The Metrodome: A tribute to the beloved multipurpose stadium that hosted major sporting events.
- The Rise of Women’s Sports: Minnesota’s leadership in advancing women’s athletics.
- A Major League Era: How Minnesota became a thriving hub for pro sports.
Admission is free, and the exhibit is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. During Holidazzle (Dec. 18-21), it will stay open until 6 p.m. With free admission and its proximity to the The Dayton’s Holiday Market, this exhibit offers a unique way to explore downtown Minneapolis this winter. Whether you’re a lifelong sports fan or just getting started, this pop-up exhibit promises something for everyone.
