Can Buck Humphrey put Minnesota back on the movie map?

Buck Humphrey, the grandson of Hubert H. Humphrey, has been many things: a candidate, a lobbyist, a government public-relations man. Now he’s aiming to be a producer. A movie guy. So who is he, exactly, and how does he relate to his grandfather’s legacy?

Here, in an interview taped last summer, when a statue of Hubert Humphrey was unveiled on the grounds of the state Capitol, Buck discusses his grandfather’s legacy with KSTP-TV:
 


As for making movies, Humphrey and his partners, including producer Jerry Seppala, an Iron Range native, see it as economic development for Minnesota. If you could film anywhere, why not in your home state? Beyond that, the script for the first film, at least, called Thanksgiving at Denny’s, seemed like a natural for the state.

“I read the script and I was like: Iron Range,” Humphrey said.
