A newscast called “Eye On Minnesota” covering the Derek Chauvin trial was featured in Saturday Night Live‘s cold open this past weekend. The clip, now with well over a million views on YouTube, shows four anchors working for the fictional KDBD-TV discussing the courtroom proceedings in Minneapolis.

Their conversation focuses on the likelihood of a conviction for Chauvin, the former Minneapolis Police officer accused in the killing of George Floyd. The two white anchors, portrayed by Kate McKinnon and Alex Moffat, seem certain of a guilty verdict.

The Black anchors, Kenan Thompson and Ego Nwodim, quickly put that to rest. “Let’s just say, we’ve seen this movie before,” Nwodim says.

Later, a weatherman played by Chris Redd delivers a familiar outlook. “We’re in Minnesota. Rest of April? Cold. May? Cold. June? Cold. July? Somehow, hot as hell.”
