Fear of the unknown causes some women to postpone breast exams and mammograms, or skip them altogether, even though the majority of screening mammograms are benign. And when they’re not benign, early detection is absolutely critical. Early detection greatly increases treatment options and the likelihood of successful recovery. Because screening mammography is so important in identifying breast cancer at the earliest stages—when it’s most treatable—it’s important that women select a breast imaging center that offers state-of-the-art technology and a staff with the highest level of clinical expertise, like what’s offered at CRL Women’s Imaging, located inside CRL Imaging Southdale.
In June of 2015, Consulting Radiologists, Ltd. launched the latest mammography technology available: Digital Breast Tomosynthesis, also known as three-dimensional mammography. This technology has been shown to improve cancer detection and reduce false positives. According to Medical Director at CRL Imaging Southdale, Dr. Trudi Parker, a board-certified breast imaging radiologist, “This revolutionary technology reveals greater detail, which can help us detect cancer more accurately.” Digital Breast Tomosynthesis offers exceptional image clarity and detail by imaging the breast in several ‘layers.’ By looking at each layer separately, a potential cancer is less likely to be obstructed from view by overlapping breast tissue. The scan is performed at the same time as a traditional 2D mammogram, on the same scanner, with no noticeable difference in the experience or time required for the patient.
At CRL Women’s Imaging, patients receive an efficient, compassionate, and comprehensive breast imaging experience. A team approach drives every aspect of care, with a staff consisting of board-certified radiologists and technologists specially trained in breast imaging, as well as a nurse navigator whose role is to help patients understand treatment options and coordinate care with referring physicians.
About Consulting Radiologists, Ltd.
- Physician-owned practice serving patients and providers for over 80 years.
- 70 board-certified radiologists represent all imaging subspecialties.
- CRL Women’s Imaging is accredited as a Breast Center of Excellence.
