Paige Bueckers is headed to Dallas as the first overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft. The versatile UConn star was selected by the Dallas Wings during the draft held in New York, joining the ranks of legendary Huskies such as Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, Maya Moore, and Breanna Stewart.
Bueckers, who attended Hopkins High School, garnered numerous accolades during her high school career, including being named USA Basketball Female Athlete of the Year and the Gatorade National Player of the Year. She finished with over 2,800 points and led her team to the 2019 Class 4A state championship.
Following a whirlwind week after UConn’s 12th national championship win, Bueckers expressed her excitement for this new chapter. “Dallas, I’m so excited, a new city, a new start,” she said, emphasizing her eagerness to embrace the fresh opportunities ahead.
Her former coach, Tara Starks, reflected on Bueckers’ journey, noting the strong bond they developed over the years. Bueckers’ UConn teammates and coach Geno Auriemma were present at the draft, where she became emotional discussing their support throughout her career.
