“I tend to design much girlier than I actually am,” says Katie Ryan, the 23-year-old illustrator behind Queenikathleeni Designs, a stationery brand named for her sassy, fantastical alter ego. Known in the local style community for her collections of fashion illustrations (done in the softest of shades using Prismacolor pencils), Ryan launched her brand last spring. Her latest collection includes chic iPad and iPhone cases (a gold-plated one inscribed with “Hello Doll” in loopy cursive text is her current favorite piece), tote bags, pillows, and more, all with a decidedly feminine spin. While her signature techniques haven’t gone anywhere—notecards covered in sketches of lemons and watermelon slices are in shades similar to her drawings of stylish girls-about-town—a new foray into stained-glass-inspired prints using watercolor and acrylic paints is proving to be yet another forte for the young artist. •queenikathleeni.com.
