It seems Netflix has a trend: if you’re producing a sports documentary series, you must feature a Minnesota athlete.

Following the appearances of Kirk Cousins in “Quarterback” and Justin Jefferson in “Receiver,” the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards is set to take the spotlight next.

On Wednesday, Netflix announced that Edwards will star in “Starting 5,” alongside NBA stars LeBron James, Domantas Sabonis, Jayson Tatum, and former Timberwolf Jimmy Butler.

This 10-part series will provide an in-depth look at the players’ experiences during last season, promising an unfiltered glimpse into the world of professional basketball.

Timberwolves fans have much to look forward to, as Edwards is considered the best young talent the team has seen since Kevin Garnett. Last season marked a high point for the franchise, highlighted by a thrilling playoff journey that began with a dominant sweep of the Phoenix Suns and an impressive comeback in game seven against the Denver Nuggets to reach the Western Conference Finals. Even the subsequent defeat by the Dallas Mavericks offers valuable insights into Edwards’ emergence as an elite NBA player.

The series is set to premiere on Oct. 9, just before the NBA regular season kicks off. If Edwards’ role in this Netflix series isn’t a testament to his rising stardom, the Timberwolves will also be playing against LeBron’s Los Angeles Lakers on opening night, part of Minnesota’s 25 nationally televised games this season.

Last season, Edwards secured his second All-Star selection and earned second-team All-NBA honors, averaging 25.9 points per game with a shooting percentage of 46%. He also captured a gold medal with Team USA in Paris this summer.
