1. Super Bowl Sunday Chili Cook-Off
Sunday, February 3, starting at 1 p.m.
Town Hall Brewery, 1430 S. Washington Ave., Minneapolis
This chili cook-off has become an annual Super Bowl tradition at the brewery. Prizes are awarded for first-, second-, and third-place winners, with people’s choice. It’s $10 per person for all the chili you can eat, plus a pint of beer. Learn more.

Canine King Boreas and Canine Queen of Snows are crowned at this year’s big dog expo in Union Depot, featuring rescue pups up for adoption, plus pooch-friendly activities and 30 pet product vendors set up in a marketplace. This is the final weekend of the 10-day festival celebrating all things bold and north. Head to the Fairgrounds in St. Paul to check out the Vulcan Snow Park giant slide and the snow sculptures. Then, on Saturday night, the City of Lakes Loppet takes place at Theodore Wirth Park, along with the Luminary Loppet on Lake of the Isles. 6. The Minnesota Opera Presents Italian Straw Hat

Ordway Center for the Performing Arts, 345 Washington St., St. Paul
An operatic comedy about a groom jetting around Paris in search of a straw hat, all because the one he was to wear at his wedding was devoured by his horse. The composer of the score for the comedy, Nino Rota, is best known for his work on the film score for The Godfather. Learn more.
