OUR MISSION
Through the effective reuse of donated items, Bridging improves lives by providing quality furniture and household goods to those transitioning out of homelessness and poverty.
KEY SERVICES PROVIDED
As a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving the Twin Cities, we seek to provide a bridge between those in need, and those with items they no longer use. Each week, Bridging serves 85 households with a basic home setup of furniture and essential household goods. As families face the exhausting challenge of finding affordable housing, employment, education and health care they are left with severely limited resources to furnish their home. By relieving the pressure to purchase furnishings, Bridging services provide families a comfortable home and allow them to focus on other crucial matters. Since 1987, Bridging has worked with Twin Cities social services agencies to ensure that clients receive the best possible service for their own unique needs. In essence, Bridging turns a house into a home. bridging Founder Fran Heitzman shops with a client It is very important that each Bridging clients’ experience is dignified from the moment they arrive at the warehouse to the moment their home is furnished with hope. Furniture and household items are donated by the community and area businesses. Bridging helps the community re- use, repurpose and redistribute more than 14 semi-trailers of furnishings each week, saving 11 million pounds from the landfill each year. The organization is able to accomplish this monumental task through a network of more than 6,000 volunteers. These volunteers offer warehouse assistance, product sorting, client shopping, office support, furniture/ electrical repair and truck driving for product pickups.
