Explore 100’s of acres of park land, whether on snow shoe, cross country skis, by horseback or on a snowmobile at Lake Carlos State Park. They have special events to help immerse you into this beautiful park along Lake Carlos.
2. Kensington Rune Stone Park
On the site of the discovery of a rune stone believed to have been left by Vikings in the year 1362, Douglas County has preserved and created a beautiful park with over 300 acres that also contains a visitor center and miles of trails.
3. Fat Tire Biking at County Parks
The Douglas County Parks along with local bike groups have provided more than 16 miles of mountain and fat tire biking trails. Kensington Rune Stone Park has trails that mostly wind through the woods, but has some stretches in open grasslands, while Lake Brophy Park’s wide open gravity runs provide lots of challenge. Take it alone or travel with a group. Local bike stores in Alexandria, along with Community Ed offer rentals options.
4. Andes Tower Hills
Andes Tower Hills is the site for so much outdoor fun. With several ski lifts and 16 downhill runs ranging from beginner to expert. They offer lessons, snowboarding, skiing, cross country skiing, tubing and snowshoeing! It has nine miles of groomed cross country trails. Andes also has a restaurant and equipment rentals on site.
5. Snowmobiling on the D.A.T.A. Trails
The D.A.T.A. Trails (Douglas Area Trails Association) maintains and grooms more than 360 miles of snowmobile trails throughout the county. The trails take you through hardwoods, prairies, lakes, hills and more. The Central Lakes Trail is part of the DATA system and connects with neighboring trail systems to extend your rides.
6. Downtown Shopping
Alexandria is home to businesses that began in the late 1800’s to brand new businesses started this year. This blend of old and new add another element to a fun downtown Alexandria shopping experience. It is a vital place with a blend of boutiques, restaurants and many other stores.
