Not all berries are created equal. Each year, a few lucky berry lovers get to participate in Driscoll’s flavor tests. More than 500 varieties are selected from all over the world. Berry-testers provide feedback on the flavor, aroma, visual appearance, and texture of the berries. Driscoll’s Joy Makers like Sensory Analyst Henry Yeung, take all of the information collected and help decide which berries get to make it into those clamshells inside your supermarket.
Earlier this summer, Driscoll’s and Lunds & Byerlys hosted a taste training workshop, during which berry enthusiasts had the opportunity to taste a selection of raspberry varieties – some of which aren’t even available yet to the public. Berry testers share feedback on how bitter, crunchy, sweet, succulent and colorful the berries were.

Driscoll’s and Lunds & Byerlys will be hosting a second Berry Open House on August 12. Guests will have the opportunity to try and rate new raspberry varieties, enjoy complimentary berry themed refreshments, and commemorate the Berry Together experience interactive photo booth.
