Experience a new season of Musical Theater with Theater Latté Da! We’re kicking off 26 years of magical musicals and thought-provoking storytelling with five shows featuring six guest directors from across the nation, as well as welcoming our new Artistic Director, Justin Lucero. Our season 26 highlights include William Finn’s FALSETTOS, returning holiday gem CHRISTMAS AT THE LOCAL, a music-infused version of Marie Jones’ Irish comedy STONES IN HIS POCKETS, the Tony Award-winning epic THE COLOR PURPLE, and the World Premiere of JOHNNY SKEEKY; OR, THE REMEDY FOR EVERYTHING, created and directed by Bradley Greenwald and Steven Epp.
The first show of our 26th Season is William Finn’s Tony-Award winning FALSETTOS. Uniquely hilarious and heartbreaking, FALSETTOS is a contemporary musical set at the beginning of the AIDS epidemic about family, relationships, baseball and bar mitzvahs. When Marvin leaves his wife, Trina, and son, Jason, to be with his lover, Whizzer, confusion is unleashed, but so is the power and possibility of chosen family and choosing to love. This production is led by the creative duo Meredith McDonough and Emily Michales King who worked together on ‘EMMA’ at The Guthrie, and stars local favorites Sasha Andreev, Serena Brook, Sheena Janson Kelley, Sam Mandell, Sara Masterson, Eric Morris and Max Wojtanowicz.
“Falsettos is my favorite musical…It was the first time where I had seen something that felt like what family felt like to me with its craziness and its zaniness.”
-Meredith McDonough, Director of Falsettos
Next up, we’ll be bringing back your favorite neighborhood pub to The Ritz with CHRISTMAS AT THE LOCAL. On a cold winter’s night, a group of locals gather to raise a glass and play a tune, calling forth the spirit of the holidays through story and song. Voices blend, memories are rekindled, and a bit of mystery hangs in the air in the return of Theater Latté Da’s rousing new celebration of the season. This production features Dylan Thomas’ “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” with composition by Cerys Matthews and Mason Neely, and “The “Longing for Amazing Peace” by Dr. Maya Angelou. Music was composed specifically for this piece by Twin Cities luminary, Chastity Brown.
Theater Latté Da has many new and exciting changes we look forward to sharing with you during our 26th season including Pay-What-You-Can ticket options during weeknight shows under our ‘Row A for All’ program, a new selection of Thursday matinees, and continued expansion of our accessible viewing options including braille programs, wider seating choices, and open captioning dates.
