I’ve waited for six long months and finally one of my favorite weekends in Minneapolis is upon us… Art Attack! Art Attack is an annual open studio and gallery crawl at the Northrup King Building, in the heart of the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District.
The weekend-long event features over 200 artists working in painting and drawing, sculpture, photography, architecture, custom furniture, fiber arts, metal, ceramics, glass, hand-crafted and custom jewelry, mixed media, mosaics, textiles, and more. Art Attack is an exciting opportunity to gain admission to private studios and to buy original art direct from local, nationally and internationally known artists.
Some of my favorite studios to check out:
Ernest Miller, Sculptor
These one-of-a-kind pieces (pictured left) are as collectable as they are gorgeous.
Jack Dale, Painter
In addition to being wildly talented, this Olympic hockey player turned professional painter is just about one of the kindest people you’ll ever meet.
Anita Sue Kolman Gallery
This is a great one-stop shopping experience. Anita’s gallery represents seven amazing artists, including Patrick Kemal Pryor, whose paintings (pictured right) would literally cover every single wall of my home had I the means. His work is amazing.
These are just a few of the hundreds of artists featured at Art Attack this weekend. Let me tell you from experience that there is nothing more fulfilling when hanging a piece of art on your wall at home than to have had the opportunity to meet the artist who created the piece you love. It sure beats buying a generic poster or print from a big box store. What’s unique or fun about that? Nothing! And original art doesn’t have to break the bank. You’ll find a ton of great deals throughout Northrup King and feel great about supporting your local art community.
