As they say, laughter is the best medicine.
No really, it is helpful: It’s good for your mental and physical health, has been known to help fight stress and even disease. It can help lower your blood pressure, increase energy levels, and I don’t know about you, but I consider it some pretty good exercise, too, when I really get going.
Some of my best trips or nights out are full of laughter—just as joyous and unexpected as the act itself—so we’re lucky to have one of the nation’s best laugh-inducers right here in Minneapolis: Acme Comedy Club and Sticks Restaurant. It’s celebrating 20 years in the biz, and still going strong.
Come for their seasoned pros, or see what you get at open mic on Monday nights. Either way, the talent is smart, diverse, and guaranteed to burn at least a few calories—as long as you don’t consume too many tasty adult beverages from the bar.
Tips: If you don’t want to be part of the show (you know, that moment where an innocent bystander’s reaction or hat are picked apart, or they ask for audience participation), then I recommend sitting a fair distance from the stage! Aside from other deals, you can get six free tickets to Acme during your birthday month (valid Tuesday through Thursday). And for a full night of fun, book a show package including dinner and the show. Acme is ultimately just a block from Marriott Towne Place Suites or a quick cab ride from other downtown Minneapolis hotels and entertainment.
Laughter truly is a universal language—recognized and contagious in every culture. So sit back, relax, and don’t take Minnesota so seriously!
Must be 18 years or older to attend. Street parking available, or there’s a lot right across from Acme.
