Close your eyes and picture this: the warm sun on your face, a cold drink in your hand, and the sizzling sounds and smells of barbeque cooking on the grill. GrillFest is all about celebrating the very best parts of the summer season, and really, who doesn’t love a good party?
The GrillFest kickoff event is Friday, May 16 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the hottest patio in town, Butcher and the Boar. The theme? Pig and Pinot. The menu? Pinot from around the world and rib tips with B&B pickles, a Butcher brat, fennel and paprika smoked ham, stuffed jalapenos, and bacon shortbread. Tickets are $50. If you’ve never been to Butcher and the Boar on Hennepin avenue (one of the “it” restaurants in town), now is the perfect opportunity to try a variety of food while checking out their expansive beer garden patio. Tickets can be purchased here.
GrillFest will be held indoors and outdoors at the Depot in downtown Minneapolis (225 South 3rd Ave.)—from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18. Walk around the venue (which is pretty cool in and of itself) and sample grilled food, summer wines, and specialty beers. Learn about the hottest grilling trends, gather recipes, and pick up tips on how to barbecue like a pro. Ask questions (you know you want to learn more about the Big Green Egg). The experts love to talk about grilling. It’s their passion!
And if mouth-watering beef, Jamaican street food, a “pig wing eating contest,” beer and wine, and an amazing historic venue aren’t reason enough to join in the fun, there will also be bands performing on the outdoor stage, sponsored by 89.3 The Current.
