For this week’s Moveable Feast, Minnesota Monthly editor Rachel Hutton and MPR host John Birge talk about how to turn this gloriously long MEA weekend into a family vacation to remember.
If your little-ones are really little, you can still hop a train to Wisconsin Dells.
If they’re older, Rachel says that Chicago has a lot more family-fun to offer than you might expect.
Take public transit and visit must-see sites Navy Pier, the Museum of Science and Industry, Shedd Aquarium, or Willis Tower. Millennial Park, home of the shiny silver bean, may seem cheesy, but having experienced it in person Rachel says, “I now think it’s a fantastic piece of public art, with a gorgeous skyline reflection and it’s fun to interact and walk around and see goofy reflections of yourself.”
And for food, what do kids love more than deep-dish pizza? Giordano’s is a top-player in Chicago, but if you’re staying in town, you can always indulge at the new location in Uptown Minneapolis.
