With winter upon us in a big way here in the upper Midwest, travelers thoughts of travel this time of year, I predict, center on a particular theme: the getaway. And with Valentine’s Day less than a month away, planning the perfect romantic getaway might just be in order. St. Paul wants to know if the cold weather brings out your romantic side.
St. Paul was recently selected as one of the 20 finalists for 10Best and USA Today’s “Best Romantic North American Getaways.” Readers have until January 27 to vote for their favorite locations. Currently, St. Paul remains in first place, ahead of top travel destinations such as San Francisco, Honolulu, and one of my favorite getaways, Mendocino, California, where I will admit I just escaped to this past November.
In its nomination, St. Paul was described as elegant, historic, and the quieter of the Twin Cities, with romantic offerings such as leisurely paddle-wheeler rides along the Mississippi, ice-skating, and parks. Place your vote for St. Paul today.
January is a time to make those yearly travel plans. As such, like the most romantic list, many other publications and travel sites compile their “top” lists for the year, either summarizing a year of travel or looking ahead. Here are just a few:
- Healthyliving + Travel highlights Spas of America’s Top 100 Spas of 2013. The sole Minnesota spa to make the list is The Marsh, Minnetonka, Minnesota. Three Wisconsin spas, and one from Iowa also cracked the top 100: Aspira Spa, The Osthoff Resort, Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin; Evensong Spa, Heidel House Resort, Green Lake, Wisconsin; Sundara Inn & Spa, Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin; and The Raj Ayurveda Health Spa, Vedic City, Iowa.
- Hotels.com has released their list of the Top Guest Rated U.S. Hotels of 2013.
- The Daily Beast just posted their list of the Best Hotels of 2014 from around the world
- And finally, Wine Enthusiast has just released its list of the 10 Best Wine Travel Destinations, 2014.
