We can thank Duluth for the music of Trampled by Turtles. But they aren’t the only talents to come from the North Shore. The band is just one of many Duluth-area favorites performing during the annual Duluth Homegrown Music Festival (April 29-May 6).
The Homegrown Music Festival is billed as an “annual showcase of rawk and/or roll devil music.” What began as a birthday party in the late 1990s is now a full-fledged music festival featuring around 150 musical acts and other events.
The eight-day event is hosted at restaurants, bars, and music venues in Duluth and Superior, Wisc., and features area talents in a variety of music genres.
The Duluth Art Institute celebrates the opening of the Homegrown Music Festival this Sunday with a reception at 5 p.m. Check out the full schedule to see what the remainder of the week brings. Do you know The Brothers Burn Mountain, Next of Kin, Roxie Magistrate, The Adjustments, Sarah Krueger, Portage or The Keep Aways? Those are just some of the artists named on the schedule. And, of course, Trampled by Turtles will play Wednesday, May 2, at Clyde Iron Works at 9 p.m. You might want to check them out here, since their June Rock the Garden show is sold out.

Besides music, the event features several art exhibits, a music video festival, and poetry showcase. Plus, the Homegrown Kickball Classic (May 5). The full guide for the festival is available to download.
If you aren’t familiar with all the venues for the music festival, hop on the Homegrown Trolley (offered free by Duluth Transit Authority on May 4 & 5 from 7 p.m.-1 a.m.) to get to and from many of the venues on Superior Street in Duluth.
Tickets for the Homegrown Music Festival are $5 each weekday, $15 for weekend days or $25 for all eight days (available at Duluth’s Electric Fetus or on site). Note: You must purchase a week-long pass to attend the Trampled by Turtles show (available at the door, limited space).
