What:  2021 British Arrows Awards

Now in its 35th year, the British Arrows Awards is a screening of the best of British advertisers from 2021, including works from directors Spike Jonze and Taika Waititi. Make this a holiday tradition by attending the Walker Cinema in person or stream as a household.

What:  GLOW Holiday Festival
When: Nightly Thursday, Dec. 23 through Sunday, Jan 2; 5-9 pm; timed entry
Where: Minnesota State Fairgrounds, 1265 Snelling Ave. N., St. Paul

Get outside and explore more than 1 million lights on display by walking through displays and exhibits at the State Fairgrounds. See the displays from above with a ride on the Sky Glider or power some lights yourself by pedaling on the Bright Bikes display. Food and drink are available for purchase.

On the Nice List

What:  Elf the Musical Jr.
When: Two matinees daily Thursday, Dec. 23; Sunday, Dec. 26; and Monday, Dec. 27
Where: Stages Theatre Company, 1111 Mainstreet, Hopkins

Based on the popular holiday film, Buddy the Elf hopes to charm his newfound family in this heartfelt and humorous musical for all ages. These young actors bring the holiday spirit to life.

Hap-Hap-Happiest Christmas

What:  National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

Clark Griswold and the gang shine a light on dysfunctional families in this screening of a film classic that includes overloaded circuits, overfull toilets, and overcooked cats and turkeys.

Air your grievances, perform feats of strength, and snap a selfie around the Festivus pole at this holiday celebration for the rest of us.

Westies Return

What:  Run Westy Run
When: Saturday, Dec. 25; 8:30 p.m.
Where: 7th St. Entry, 701 First Ave. N., Minneapolis

The Johnson brothers first formed this punk and funk band in 1984 with friends during one of Minnesota’s musical heydays that also included Husker Du, Soul Asylum, and The Replacements. Now in its fourth decade, some founding members as well as new players continue to collaborate and perform in concert.
