This popular event is back this year with artists creating colorful and artistic ice shanties and other interactive activities and performances on a frozen portion of Bde Unma/Lake Harriet in Minneapolis. New this year, all events will be completely outdoors and allow for social distancing.
Nature Lit Up
What: Nature Illuminated Walking TourWhen: Through Sunday, Jan. 16; 5-9 p.m. Thursday & Sunday, 5-9:30 p.m. Friday & Saturday Where: Minnesota Zoo, 13000 Zoo Boulevard, Apple Valley
The once-drivable path is now a walking tour featuring 36 giant, glowing inflatable zoo animals. Walk the trail at your pace and stop at fire pits to warm up or enjoy the scenery.
A-MAZEing Palace
What: Ice Palace MazeWhen: Opens Friday, Jan. 14; daily through Sunday, Feb. 20 Where: Zephyr Theatre, 601 Main St. N., Stillwater
More than 2,900 blocks of ice and 3,000 LED lights were used to create this palace-themed walkable half-mile maze of twisty turns, carved ice dragons, an ice throne, and an ice slide. The adjacent Zephyr Theatre building will be open for hot drinks, snacks, and restroom access.
To Sir with Love

Classically trained, gospel-influenced, and jazz-inspired, Ginger Commodore and her band, GCQ, celebrate the life of Oscar-winning actor Sir Sidney Poitier, who died Jan. 6.
Blanket Opportunity

Donate new or gently used blankets for distribution to local families in need through Minnesota nonprofit organization Bridging. The third annual drive is the primary source for Bridging to secure blankets for the families they serve. Just drive by and drop off blankets at one of the four Original Mattress Factory participating locations.

Ice skating, pond hockey tournaments, curling practice, Olympics watch parties, and holiday lights are all part of the new Winter SKOLstice outdoor recreation program at the Minnesota Vikings training facility grounds in Eagan. Bring your skates to spin around the rink on the Omni Vikings Lakes Hotel patio or join a nightly pond hockey league on the north lake of the campus.
