Sip and Shop: Summer Indulgence at Cannon River Winery

Sometimes, all you want to do is show up. No planning, no packing, no special arrangements except meeting your mom and sisters or a few girlfriends for some fun.

And that’s what this Saturday’s Summer Indulgence is all about. It’s an annual event (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) that brings local artists and crafters to the Cannon River Winery so that you can taste the locally-made wine while also appreciating local talent making jewelry, handbags, pottery, art, clothes, and other handmade wares.

All you have to do is show up. And sip while you shop. And of course, bring your wallet—it’s free to attend, but there will be all sorts of goodies you’ll want to taste, try on, and likely take home.

While shopping (1-4 p.m), enjoy some live tunes from Relativity, a trio from Northfield, Minn., made up of twin sisters Linda Wilson & Sandy Jensen (vocals, mandolin, harmonica & percussion) and Toby Jensen (guitar & vocals) playing new and old classic rock favorites.

Cannon Falls, Minn. is about 40 minutes south of St. Paul. The winery sits along Little Cannon River, very near Minnieska Park, Riverside Park and others, so is prime picking for some outdoor adventure if you want to add that to the weekend and possibly stay a night at a nearby B&B.

The Winery is open regularly for grape harvesting, tours, and picnics. And there’s a gift shop for buying wine, wine-themed gifts, and local cheeses.

Want more? Cannon River Winery is hosting “Yoga and Wine in the Vineyard” the next day, August 26. $20 gets you a class led by Maureen Farley of Green Lotus Yoga & Healing Center, and of course, a glass of wine.
