Carved and heaved out of Little Detroit Lake last January, 1,000-plus ice blocks, each weighing 500 pounds, were hauled to Detroit Lakes City Beach and stacked into a 32-foot-tall ice palace—completing the northwest town’s first ice harvest in more than 50 years. –Erik Tormoen
