Sue Z.'s Charitable Check-In: September

Twin Cities galas to watch out for this month include a masquerade ball for diabetes, drumming for families, and the Walker Art Center’s Avant Garden

1. Avant Garden on September 9 at the Walker Art Center

Avant Garden is the annual benefit and cumulative event of the summer season at the Walker. You can party with a purpose as the proceeds from this evening of gourmet food, cocktails, art auctions, live music, and DJ Jazzy Jeff go toward the Walker’s artistic and educational programing. Learn more.

2. Mill City Farmers Market Harvest Social on September 10 at the Mill City Museum Train Shed

This annual social celebrates healthful foods, local farmers, and the Mill City Farmers Market Charitable fund. This new fund was established to support a healthier Twin Cities by creating programs for food access and education, plus providing grants for local, sustainable farmers. Learn more.

3. JDRF Hope Gala on September 16 at The Depot

4. Mick Sterling’s “Let There Be Drums” on September 20 at Harriet Island Regional Park in St. Paul.

Minnesota musician Mick Sterling and the Stud Brothers have a goal: To squeeze 1,000 drummers together and play “Golden Slumbers,” “Carry that Weight,” and “The End” by the Beatles. Each drummer is encouraged to raise $150 for the 30-Days Foundation, an organization that assists families with one-time financial grants in order to pay service providers. Learn more.
