Nothing speaks more to your love for the mothers in your life than quality time and someone else doing the cooking and organizing. This weekend is loaded with workshops, events, sweets, and brunches that still have room for you.
Edwards Dessert Kitchen
Edwards Dessert Kitchen in North Loop (already a MNMO fave) launches a regular weekend brunch program over Mother’s Day weekend with takes on toast for every taste. (Say that five times fast.) The centerpiece: Passion Fruit Pain Perdu, essentially brioche French toast wearing a fancy hat of passion fruit caramel syrup, fresh papaya, and some caramelized banana (see above). Other stunners: A brioche Bostock covered with a layer of warm chocolate and then almond cream, and beautiful almond butter toast with stripes of Ames Farm Honey on sunflower rye. Best to bring a big enough group to order and share them all.
Not everyone in your party has a sweet tooth? Do the Bostock on English muffin bread with pepperoni-like prosciutto and asparagus. Non-toast choices include a satisfyingly crunchy (and gluten-free) Hash Brown Waffle topped with chorizo, a capital-F-fresh herb and goat cheese Frittata, or the deceptively simple Iced Fruit Cup, featuring watermelon sorbet, tropical fruits and a little lime zest. No reservations. 200 N. Washington Ave., Minneapolis, edwardsdessertkitchen.com.
Blackbird
This Mother’s Day menu looks delicious. The South Minneapolis staple had us at raspberry French toast and fried chicken benedict, although you can look for the rest of the Mother’s Day lineup here. No reservations. 3800 Nicollet Ave, Minneapolis
Science Museum of Minnesota
Reserve a last minute spot at the Science Museum of Minnesota’s Mother’s Day event, complete with a riverside view and a full brunch or lunch menu crafted by the museum’s executive chef. Each meal ticket also includes admission into the museum for a nice afternoon with loved ones. Seating times for 10 a.m., 12 p.m., and 2 p.m. @ Science Museum of Minnesota, 120 W Kellogg Blvd, St Paul, smm.org.
Mother’s Day Flower Workshop
Learn the basics of floral arrangement and take home a beautiful bouquet at this workshop hosted by Jacquie’s Flowers at Xiaart. Go by yourself to make a homemade gift that’s a little more elegant than your elementary school arts and crafts or spend some time with your mom and make something together. May 11 from noon to 2 p.m. @ Xiaart, 422 University Ave. W, Suite 14, St. Paul, eventbrite.com.
Beautiful May Soiree
As part of Mall of America’s Beautiful May month-long event (think various discounts, specials, and demonstrations), the rotunda is going to be full of more than 30 retailers focused on well being, skin care, and beauty. May 11 from noon to 3 p.m. @ Mall of America, mallofamerica.com.
Mom’s Day Rooftop Yoga + Beer
Stretch out with your best female friend (mom or otherwise) on the rooftop of LynLake Brewery. (Rainy day? There’s an indoor option.) Post-yoga, sip some beer, pick a flower donated by Flowers Plus of Elk River, sink into a complimentary chair massage from Well Adjusted Eden Prairie, and grab a professional pic from Haley Marie Photography. May 12 from 11 a.m. to noon @ LynLake Brewery, 2934 Ave. S, Minneapolis, ombrewers.com.
