Starting Thursday, June 9, Music in Mears will once again fill St. Paul’s summer months with the sweet sound of live music.

The weekly event, held 6-9 p.m. every Thursday night until August 25, is located in Mears Park, a lush refuge from Lowertown St. Paul’s bustling streets. The ambiance of its urban location mixed with the scenery of its open space creates the perfect environment for laid back evenings full of local arts and community.

Founded 13 years ago by Brian Horst and Kyle Johnson, the series began with just four shows a year. Soon, event excitement and frequency increased. To create the best evenings possible, Horst brought on local food and music expert Clint Roberts in 2009, who helped center the event even more around regional tastes.

The concerts’ popularity have led the same individuals to start another music series, Rhythm in Rice. These events will be held at 6 p.m. every Friday in Rice Park, starting this week and continuing through the end of August.

Featured performers at Music in Mears will include Alex Rossi, Maudlin, Communist Daughter, Little Fevers, The Galactic Cowboy Orchestra, among many others. Some artists at Rhythm in Rice are Irie Sol, Ipso Facto, Soul Tight Committee, New Primitives, and Debbie Duncan.

Local breweries Summit, Lake Monster, Tin Whiskers, Flat Earth Brewing, all pitch in for both events. Food options include Hot Indian, Potter’s Pastries, A Peace of Cake, Fun Fare Global Street Food, and more.

The events are free and supported by local companies and generous individuals. Revel in great music, food, and company all summer long!
