My Sister Partners with Amber Tamblyn on Empowering Line of Shirts

In the wake of the recent slew of sexual assault scandals and the #MeToo social media movement, Minnesota-based brand My Sister has released a collection of empowering t-shirts in partnership with actress and women’s rights activist Amber Tamblyn.

While the timing may have coincidental, it couldn’t be more apt. “Amber reached out to us after a friend gifted her with our It’s My Body, It’s My Choice tank and wanted to do an inspiring collection featuring her poetry,” explains My Sister’s Maria McGinty. My Sister was founded in 2015 with a mission to bring a message of empowerment to girls and women through bold t-shirts and hoodies, with a portion of proceeds benefiting nonprofits that fight sex trafficking.

The six-piece #ChoirUp collection features original poetry and phrases written by Tamblyn are meant to encourage women to use their voices to inspire change, and have already been donned on social media by celebs including Sarah Paulson, Amy Poehler, Uzo Aduba, Kathleen Hanna, Kristen Schaal, and America Ferrera.

Most of the poems featured on the shirts were originally published in Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls website, and the choir quote comes from Tamblyn’s op-ed published this past September in The New York Times about her experiences with sexual harassment in Hollywood, which helped inspire a wave of women and celebs to speak out and name their abusers.

Prices range from $16 to $78 and are now available exclusively on My Sister’s website and the My Sister store in Uptown. A quarter of proceeds from the statement-making shirts will be donated to GEMS, a nonprofit that helps young women and girls who have experienced sex trafficking and exploitation exit the industry with support and resources.

My Sister's store is located at 1616 W Lake St., Minneapolis, 612-400-1994, mysister.org
