A couple weeks ago, I went to the James J. Hill Reference Library. Not to check out a book or study or write or read, but to drink beer. And eat Chex Mix. And listen to one of the hottest singers on the local-music scene right now: Chastity Brown. This sounds weird, right? Going to a place that’s traditionally rigid about eating, drinking, talking—heck, even breathing too loudly—for a concert?
Well, that’s the point. Friends of the St. Paul Public Library have put their bookish brains together and come up with the “Book It” series. Each night features beer from Summit Brewing Company (free if you have a library card!), music trivia, snacks, and a concert by local talent. Now, you might be asking yourself, “That sounds like trivia nights everywhere else around town.” Okay, fair enough, but does that dive bar you frequent have gorgeous marble floors, towering pillars, centuries worth of knowledge, and stacks upon stacks of books reminiscent of Beauty and the Beast? No, no it does not. So come, have a beer, show off your music knowledge, and rock out to tunes by local alt/pop/indie band We Became Actors. This isn’t just another trivia night: it’s an experience.
