Through sharing style inspiration and trendy outfits online, Minnesota girl Krista Brumm has gained an impressive following of almost 9,000 on her Instagram page. Sharing outfits on the social media account started as a fun hobby in college, but it quickly transformed into a project making waves in the local fashion scene. While Instagram is her main platform for all things fashion-related, Brumm also runs a blog, Krista Collective, where she shares her passion for creative writing on topics beyond fashion, including health and travel. We spoke with the fashionista to find out a little more about the girl behind the screen.
How did you begin using your Instagram as a channel to share your fashion interests?
Brumm: I loved dressing up in high school, and when I graduated and went off to college, I noticed the universal outfit was a campus store tee and sweatpants. I wanted a place to inspire young women to feel confident in stepping up the dress game while exploring a creative outlook for myself. With all the new changes in my life, I could always count on fashion as a way of feeling happy!
Describe your personal style.
Brumm: Girly and trendy. I love bringing new trends to Minnesota that haven’t been done before.
What are your favorite local shops?
Brumm: I love Kittsona, Primp Boutique, and Rubi Jubi. They all keep that same theme in mind of trendy, yet staple pieces. They all do a great job at showcasing higher fashion elements that are optimal for Minnesotans alike!
What are your go-to summer staples?
Brumm: Two-piece sets are definitely my summer jam right now. If crop tops aren’t your thing, I’m also crushing on flared linen pants—preferably cropped, but I don’t discriminate! (They are) very cute paired with a tank or crop.
What is the best style advice you’ve ever received?
Brumm: Be authentic. I think once you lose this element you no longer are what makes you, you. Be original, and own whatever you wear! Confidence is the best staple piece you could possibly wear!
What is your favorite fashion trend at the moment?
Brumm: I love Gingham right now, and I feel like it’s so universal and a great pattern for all body types. I also think one-piece swimsuits are so fun for summer and are becoming more trendy among stores, so there are a lot of options.
Where do you find style inspiration?
Brumm: My mom. We are both constantly in each others’ closets and love to shop together, which makes it really fun when you share similar styles. I also channel a lot of inspiration through my peers and bigger bloggers in the industry.
