This week’s best shopping and style events, plus Fashion Week Minnesota highlights:
Fashion Revolution Week: April 24 to 30 marks Fashion Revolution Week, an annual commemoration of the 1,129 garment workers who died during the Rana Plaza factory collapse in Bangladesh in 2013. The initiative runs awareness-raising events around the world, pushing consumers to ask brands “who made my clothes?” via a social media campaign and advocating for a more ethical and self-conscious fashion industry. Twin Cities shops and artist studios get into the act with a series of events this week. They include a mending lab at Junket: Tossed & Found (7-8:30 p.m. Tue., April 25); a t-shirt upcycling event that includes live screen printing hosted by local lit magazine The Riveter at Twin Spirits Distillery (7-9 p.m. Fri., April 28); and an indigo upcycling workshop with Indigo & Snow at the local maker’s Casket Arts studio (10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sat., April 29 @ Casket Arts, Studio 221). Joynoëlle: Fungi: Beauty from Decay: Minneapolis fashion designer Joy Teiken debuts her latest couture collection with a stylized runway presentation as part of Fashion Week Minnesota. Taking inspiration from mushrooms and lichens, the collection features the designer’s innovative use of fabric and organic silhouettes. All proceeds benefit local nonprofit Kill Kancer, and the show is followed by an after party DJ’d by Lori Barbero. Live Fashion Gallery: A group of six emerging local fashion designers will present mini collections as part of spring Fashion Week MN at the Food Building in Northeast Minneapolis. The designer-produced, unconventional fashion show will feature gallery-style presentations inspired by craft-food movement, plus a Boundary Waters-inspired look in partnership with Friends of the Boundary Waters. 7-9 p.m. Wed., April 26 @ Food Building, 1401 Marshall St. NE. Raul Osorio S/S17 Collection Presentation: Minneapolis-based menswear designer Raul Osorio, who competed on the 10th season of Project Runway, presents his spring/summer 2017 collection, which explores the juxtaposition of hard lines and masculine silhouettes with feminine lightness, using denim as a canvas. Brochu Walker Event: Shop the spring and summer 2017 collections by Brochu Walker during this three-day event. Linden Hills Spring Shopping Crawl: The shops of Linden Hills are joining forces for a spring shopping crawl. Winsome Goods Market: Local fashion designer Kathryn Sieve recently opened a joint storefront and studio in Minnesota featuring her brand, Winsome.
