Where: Melrose Area Chamber of Commerce, 223 Main St. E., Melrose
About an hour and a half northwest of the Twin Cities, this annual fest in Melrose features a morning 5K, pig and duck races, a kickball tournament, games for kids, a parade at 6 p.m., fireworks, entertainment by St. Cloud rockers the Fabulous Armadillos, and more—to celebrate before July 4 lands on a hump day this year. What: Corgi Dog Races and Cupcake Festival

The marquee event at Canterbury this weekend is the most adorable thing on the planet: corgi races. Harry Styles has shaken off his boy-band reputation with a bluesy set of newish songs from his self-titled album, but we still think of him as the front man for One Direction. What: Forest Lake Fourth of July Carnival

This weekend up to July 4, get a healthy dose of Independence Day festivities at Forest Lake’s American Legion, just northeast of the Twin Cities.
