Spring Fashion Blooms, Across Generations

As generations come together, retro and modern styles converge—creating a harmony that blooms

Our spring fashion shoot for the cover of our March/April issue (on newsstands now!) was inspired by the concept of intergenerational relationships. Teaming up with local floral experience company Sip N Bloom, we incorporated live florals into this eight-shot visual story, aiming to capture the beauty, creativity, and style that can be bloom between generations as they grow and adapt to their varying cultural conditions.

Sourcing from local boutiques across Minnesota, we sought to merge retro and modern styles to represent the varying influences that our two models’ age groups might bring to the table. Looks that were popular in the 1980s and ’90s (polka dots, boxy silhouettes, neon hues) seamlessly converged with the top trends forecasted for spring 2025 (high-volume skirts, pastel palettes, plaid/gingham), demonstrating the harmony created when generations blend their unique perspectives.

Shot by Lauren Krysti, we hope this story will brighten your day, wardrobe, and coffee table (with a copy of our print issue). Read on to see where you can shop these quintessential spring looks, and to discover some of behind the scenes magic that bloomed this shoot to life.

Behind the Scenes

Curating inspiration is half the battle—but plans will always change on set. Still, we arrived at Lauren Krysti’s studio in Northeast Minneapolis with plenty of visual inspo to help us direct the eight shots.

Our accessories table was filled to the brim, curated alongside a range of local boutiques and retailers.

Sip N Bloom works fast and efficiently, building out an entire floral landscape during our 20-minute lunch break on set.

Sip N Bloom owner David Kisan preps model Sierra Wicht for shot six, “The Uproot,” inserting a bouquet of fresh florals into her tulle gloves.

It took a village to prep model Tena Sipple for shot two, “The Perennial,” where we aimed to create the illusion of live flowers growing from her hair.

Sierra Wicht’s look in shot seven, “The Invisible Advocate,” might have been my favorite of the day, a true taste of spring with its casual gardener-style aesthetic and its starring headpiece by Celina Kane.

Photographer Lauren Krysti preps model Tena Sipple for shot eight, “The Return,” the “happy ending” shot of our intergenerational story.

As Minnesota Monthly's Style Editor, Emma keeps a close pulse on all things retail, style, and fashion in the Twin Cities and beyond. Since graduating from Miami University in 2022 with degrees in English Literature and Media and Culture, Emma has accumulated a wealth of experience in both the editorial and fashion industries, including producing a soldout runway show for Fashion Week Minnesota. She harnesses this experience, as well as her passion for storytelling, to communicate the diverse perspectives of individuals who have helped shape the Minnesota fashion scene and its one-of-a-kind events, brands, and businesses. When she is not writing, you might find Emma at a yoga class, thrifting, walking her Bernese Mountain Dog, traveling, or drinking overpriced coffee. You will never see her in the same outfit twice.
