The season opens with “Don’t Miss Doris Hines” by TyLie Shider (Sept. 18 through Oct. 12, 2025), a world premiere that chronicles the life of the celebrated Minneapolis jazz singer whose voice once caught the attention of Nat King Cole himself. Later in the year—Nov. 20 through Dec. 21, 2025—the holidays get a frosty twist with “Rollicking! A Winter Carnival Musical,” a lively new production that dives into the magic and myth of St. Paul’s beloved Winter Carnival, complete with historical nods and musical flair.
“There is an interconnectedness that history isn’t distant but that we make history every day and an importance of knowing the past, to better understand where we are going.” –Artistic Director Richard D. Thompson
History buffs and theatergoers alike will be intrigued by “Whoosh!”—Jan. 29 through Feb. 22, 2026—a haunting, character-driven ghost story set against the backdrop of St. Anthony Falls in the days following the Civil War, accompanied live by folk musicians The Lost Forty. Then, in spring 2026, humor takes center stage with “Hungry Like the Wolf” (March 19 through April 12, 2026), a fast-paced, irreverent comedy that blends the story of the Willmar Eight women’s strike with ’80s nostalgia and a nod to Duran Duran.

Closing out the season is a History Theatre classic: “Courting Harry” by Lee Blessing (May 14 through June 7, 2026), which explores the lifelong friendship—and political rifts—between Minnesota natives and Supreme Court justices Warren Burger and Harry Blackmun.
Artistic Director Richard D. Thompson sums up the spirit of the season best: “History isn’t distant—we make history every day.” The new lineup reflects that philosophy, offering stories that remain deeply relevant and rooted in Minnesota’s shared past.
