Minnesota is a state rich in culture and history, offering a diverse array of museums and attractions that reflect its unique heritage and artistic spirit. Minneapolis

W Minneapolis—The Foshay features a unique museum located within the historic Foshay Tower, Minneapolis’ first skyscraper. The museum showcases the tower’s rich history, architectural design, and the legacy of Wilbur Foshay, the businessman who built it. Visitors of all ages can explore exhibits filled with artifacts, photographs, and displays that highlight the tower’s cultural significance and art deco style from the Roaring Twenties. A highlight is the Observation Deck on the 31st floor, providing stunning views of the Minneapolis skyline. Reservations for the Observation Deck can be made online. Hennepin History Museum is dedicated to uniting communities through the preservation and exploration of history. With a mission to share diverse stories from Hennepin County and its surroundings, the museum offers engaging exhibits, public programs, and a rich research library. Visitors can enjoy changing displays in a historic mansion, participate in summer walking tours, and read Hennepin History, the museum’s magazine since 1941. The Textile Center is America’s national center for fiber art, dedicated to promoting textile traditions and innovation. It offers exceptional exhibitions, an artisan shop, and more than 200 classes annually for ages 7 and up. The center’s mission is to inspire appreciation and participation in fiber arts, showcasing thematic displays that highlight the rich history and techniques of the craft. One of its most popular exhibitions, “A Common Thread,” features over 170 artists and represents various textile art forms. Upcoming highlights include “Stitching Black Legacy: The Quilts of Carolyn Mazloomi,” on view through July 12.

The Minnesota History Center, part of the Minnesota Historical Society, offers inspiring exhibits and engaging programs that explore the state’s rich stories, people, and places. The Minnesota Children’s Museum is a vibrant, three- story destination packed with hands-on fun for families. With 11 unique exhibits, including a four-story climber, laser maze, car wash, and pretend town, children can explore and play in engaging environments designed for ages 10 and under. The museum emphasizes kid-powered play, fostering learning through exploration and creativity. Popular attractions include the toddler gallery and interactive play spaces that inspire confidence and critical thinking. As the largest children’s museum in Minnesota, it has been a cherished place for generations. Don’t miss the upcoming “Game On!” exhibit debuting this summer.

The Twin City Model Railroad Museum, home of “Small Trains, Big Memories,” offers a captivating experience for all ages. Spanning over 11,000 square feet, the museum features interactive train layouts, Lego play tables, and exhibits showcasing the rich history and technology of model railroading. Founded in 1934, this all-volunteer nonprofit aims to educate and inspire visitors while celebrating the regional significance of railroads. Highlights include a stunning O-scale layout and seasonal events like “Night Trains,” where the exhibits come alive with magical lighting. Admission is affordable, with free entry for children under 4.

Southeastern Minnesota

The Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM) in Winona is a nonprofit dedicated to exploring our profound connection to water through dynamic art experiences. Nestled along the Mississippi River, MMAM features six exhibition galleries and a riverside campus, offering a diverse range of historical and contemporary marine-themed art. Highlights include the 1,275-foot-long panorama “A Spectacle in Motion,” and upcoming exhibitions like Edward Burtynsky’s “Water.” This summer, the Water Bar Café + Provisions will invite guests to relax and reflect amid their art experience. With engaging programs for
all ages, MMAM fosters a deeper appreciation for art and water’s vital role in our lives.

Rochester Art Center is a vibrant hub for contemporary art, dedicated to making the arts accessible and engaging for all. With world-class exhibitions and diverse programs, it fosters creativity, critical thinking, and community connection. Open Wednesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the center welcomes visitors of all ages, offering guided tours on weekends. Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for seniors, and free for those 21 and under,
as well as members. Upcoming exhibitions include “Celebrations in Fiber” and “The Cherry Blossoms You Missed,” showcasing innovative artistic expressions.

Western Minnesota

The Fagen Fighters WWII Museum in Granite Falls offers a compelling journey into World War II history through its impressive collection of airworthy aircraft, ground vehicles, and authentic artifacts. Established in 2012 by Ron and Diane Fagen to honor Ron’s father, Ray Fagen, a distinguished World War II veteran, the museum aims to connect generations by inspiring visitors with the stories of the Greatest Generation. Highlights include iconic planes like the P-51D Mustang and the B-25 Mitchell, alongside poignant exhibits such as the Holocaust and POW boxcar. Upcoming events, including the WWII Aircraft Reunion on Aug. 16-17, promise engaging activities for all ages.

Great River Children’s Museum is a new vibrant destination for exploration in St. Cloud. Spanning over 30,000 square feet, this dynamic space invites children and their caregivers to embark on imaginative adventures. One of the highlights, the “Headwaters” exhibit, immerses visitors in the serene beauty of the Northwoods, featuring activities like canoeing and fishing during the day, and indigenous storytelling around a campfire at night. With eight core exhibits, including the spectacular three-story “Climber to the Clouds,” every visit promises new discoveries.
