Hit the Trail Out Here
On your way to Yellowstone or Glacier this year? Be sure to check out the Southeast Montana Burger Trail as you travel. It features more than 20 burgers, each one unique, and we’ve personally sampled every single one. Along the trail, you will taste true Montana flavor from inside our small-town eateries that shows off our culinary craftsmanship and local humor, all smothered with genuine culinary ingenuity. Sign up for the passport, make eight stops and you can win an “I’m a Burger Boss” T-shirt.
Out here in Southeast Montana we give you plenty of reasons to get off the interstate and explore where the mountains meet the prairies and the rivers flow. Try Montana’s Trail to the Stars, which features more than 40 locations to view Montana’s Big Sky at night. The Trail’s anchor, Medicine Rocks State Park, is an international Dark-Sky Sanctuary, which means it’s the darkest of the dark.
If you and the kids, or grandkids, dig paleontology, try the Montana Dinosaur Trail. Visit all 14 locations, submit your passport and earn a T-shirt, along with tons of memories. Rockhounds will love hunting for fossils or the elusive Montana moss agates, too.
If history is more your jam, don’t miss Pompeys Pillar National Monument, where Capt. William Clark carved his name in the rock more than 200 years ago. Download our history map for more stops along your route. Be sure to use your National Parks Pass (NPS) at both Pompeys Pillar and the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument. The Battlefield will be undergoing a major renovation – so check the NPS’s website to confirm the open dates/hours – and start planning now for the exciting reveal in the summer of 2026.
