After more than a decade of planning, the long-discussed Upper Harbor redevelopment is finally moving from concept to construction. Ground broke this week on an 8,000-seat amphitheater along the Mississippi River in North Minneapolis—a project that aims to be as much about community as it is about concerts.
Set to open in summer 2027, the venue—developed in partnership with First Avenue and the Minnesota Orchestra—will anchor a broader transformation of the former industrial site. Plans go beyond the stage: a 20-acre riverfront park, affordable housing, a health and wellness hub, and hundreds of living-wage jobs are all part of the vision. The goal is a destination that feels rooted in place while creating new opportunity.
