After Prince’s passing, his spacious Paisley Park complex in Chanhassen became a museum devoted to his memory. Tours of the space (described in great detail here) trace his career with impressive memorabilia on display and access to the spaces he used. At the end, there’s a chance to load up on a massive range of authorized purple and love symbol-adorned merchandise. Aside from stuff you can order online, this had been the top place to pick up goods for the Prince devotee in your life. That is, until an even more massive building in Bloomington got involved.
A Paisley Park pop-up store at Mall of America, Paisley Park @ MOA, opens Friday, November 27. According to a press release, this will be “an outpost of Prince’s iconic home and creative sanctuary.” On sale will be new, vintage, and exclusive clothing, music, memorabilia, and other gifts. A Paisley Park rep says the vintage items are pre-2016 merchandise from Prince’s own tours or (web) stores. Paisley Park museum artifacts are also expected to be on display.
“We are excited to partner with Mall of America, it allows us to further share the experience of Paisley Park in our continuing efforts to celebrate Prince’s legacy,” said Alan Seiffert, executive director of Paisley Park, in the release. “Our goal is for shoppers to enjoy the offerings of our new retail location, as well as learn more about Paisley Park.” If all goes well, organizers say the store could have a longer stay at the mall.
Thinking about giving a Paisley Park tour as a gift? More info on that over here, but remember that all events are currently postponed due to COVID-19 until December 19.
