Going Once, Going Twice

WHAT: The Auction at MCAD

It’s time for the annual Auction at MCAD, the Minneapolis College of Art and Design’s yearly event featuring both silent and live auctions of almost 50 pieces of original art. This event is a great way for MCAD alumni, faculty, and staff to get their work on display—and who knows, maybe you’ll find the perfect piece for your foyer. Desirable or Detested

WHAT: Vulcão
WHERE: The Cowles Center, Mpls.
WHEN: 7:30 p.m.
Translating to mean one who is desirable or detested, Vulcão is all about power and the parallels and relationships between people. Performed by a super-athletic cast of dancers from the Contempo Physical Dance company, this show’s choreography takes inspiration from volcanoes (think :shifting tectonic plates and viscous lava) in a fusion of Afro-Brazilian contemporary dance—it doesn’t get much hotter than that. Race to the Market

Celebrate the opening of the Northeast Minneapolis Farmers Market by getting some fresh air and exercise en route to the produce-packed stands. The four-mile fun run will follow the Mississippi River across the Stone Arch Bridge and through the St. Anthony Falls Historic Milling District, so views will be spectacular. And the event benefits the Food Group’s Harvest for the Hungry program, a food bank that provides fresh, locally grown produce from CSA farms to families in need. A Water Wonderland

They don’t call us the Land of 10,000 Lakes for nothing—spending time by the lovely lakes in the Cities is one of summer’s greatest perks. Celebrate the clean water at WaterFest, which offers outdoor fun and opportunities to learn more about water quality and wildlife. The family-friendly event includes solar pontoon boat rides, stand-up paddleboard lessons, an all-ages fishing contest, and more.
