Food & Wine Experience Sneak Peek

Hy-Vee returns as Food & Wine Experience co-sponsor

From Bacon, Jalapeño & Maple Wontons and Spicy Thai Peanut Chicken to an array of mini gourmet cupcakes, bakery-fresh cookies and reception cakes, Co-Presenting Sponsor Hy-Vee is putting a good deal of the food in the Minnesota Monthly Food & Wine Experience (March 5 & 6 at Target Field).

Attendees of the show will want to make sure to visit the grocer’s “pop-up” shop to check out these delicious items, as well as their famous White Cheddar Mac & Cheese, shrimp, and a variety of charcuterie and specialty cheeses.

Of course you’ll need something to drink while savoring all the delicious food. Attendees will enjoy swirling and sipping Two Horns Red Blend. This Sonoma County wine blends iconic California varietals—mostly Mendocino and Lodi Zinfandel with a little Petite Sirah and Cabernet—producing a full-bodied and powerful wine with aromas of wild berries and toasted oak and intense black fruit flavors accented with spicy, smoky notes.

Fans of something a little frothier can get a taste of Baraboo, a craft beer sold exclusively at Hy-Vee stores, and sample Lumberjack IPA, Skillet Creek Pilsner, Red Granite Lager and Woodpecker Wheat. Lumberjack IPA is a distinctive taste among the Baraboo beers. Hops infuse bite and a sometimes-bitter taste into beer, so sweet malt is added to balance any bitterness in Lumberjack. This allows other flavors—citrusy, fruity scents—to be sensed. The Red Granite Lager is amber lager in the same beer family as most popular brands. As a craft beer, however, to separate this robust brew from competitors—primarily mass-market domestic beers—the presence of hops has been increased, giving this malty, well-balanced beer an edge. Woodpecker Wheat Ale is a light brew made with a recipe dating back to the world’s oldest brewery, which operated 1,000 years ago in Germany.

After years of planning, Hy-Vee entered the Twin Cities market on Sept. 22, 2015 by opening two new stores in New Hope and Oakdale. The grocer has been in southern Minnesota since 1969 and was operating 17 stores in the area prior to entering the Twin Cities market. Hy-Vee is excited to bring its offerings and culinary experience to the Twin Cities and will be opening future locations in Lakeville, Brooklyn Park, Eagan, Savage and Cottage Grove.

Enjoy Hy-Vee’s savory and sweet delights at the most delicious weekend of the year: Minnesota Monthly’s 22nd Annual Food & Wine Experience Saturday, March 5 and Sunday, March 6 (1–5 p.m., both days) all enjoyed from the warmth and comfort of the Metropolitan and Legends clubs inside Target Field, located at 1 Twins Way, Minneapolis, MN 55403.
