A new chapter in Minnesota’s cannabis landscape begins April 11 with the opening of Flame & Flora, the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community’s new dispensary in Prior Lake.

Designed with a “deli-style” shopping experience, Flame & Flora invites customers to engage more directly with the product—viewing and selecting flower before it’s packaged. It’s a more tactile, personalized approach that reflects a broader shift in how cannabis is being introduced to consumers across the state.
But beyond the experience itself, the dispensary’s focus is equally notable. Flame & Flora plans to prioritize products grown and produced by other tribal nations and small-scale Minnesota cultivators, reinforcing a commitment to local partnerships and Indigenous-led enterprise.
For the SMSC, the opening is both an economic move and an extension of its longstanding mission—supporting its community, strengthening regional collaboration, and stewarding resources with future generations in mind.
