Forget the stereotypical dispensary vibe. MoonLeaf in Shakopee feels more like a cozy lifestyle boutique crossed with an artsy night out. The low-dose cannabis shop has quietly carved out a niche for quirky, community-driven events that blend creativity, wellness, and THC-era curiosity into something fun and approachable.

When I stopped into MoonLeaf in early June, I expected shelves of THC products and a typical retail experience. Instead, I found a cozy boutique that felt more like a neighborhood lifestyle shop than a cannabis store. I was immediately drawn to racks of stylish clothing, where nothing cost more than about $40 or $50 and many brand-new pieces were priced between $10 and $15. Dubbed “Second Leaf,” the in-store collection gives excess inventory and overproduced apparel a second chance, with fresh arrivals landing every week.
“We wanted to build something that felt uniquely Minnesotan—a place rooted in community, creativity, and connection,” says founder Castiel Cassell. In any given month, you might find guests painting ceramic bongs and pipes, pouring custom candles, knitting blankets, or gathering for full-moon circles. There are after-hours shopping nights, DIY workshops, and intimate social events designed less around getting high and more around connection and creative exploration.
As I browsed, staff member Castiel patiently walked me through the store’s selection of low-dose edibles, THC beverages, and functional mushroom products, explaining the different dosages, effects, and intended uses without a hint of intimidation. It set the tone for what MoonLeaf does best: making cannabis culture feel approachable, welcoming, and surprisingly creative.
“I think everyone deserves a little whimsy in their life,” Cassell says. “We’ve filled MoonLeaf with small treasures, thoughtful gifts, and unexpected finds that invite people to explore. Some customers come in for a beverage and leave with a sticker, a charm bracelet, or a new favorite thing they never knew they needed.”
Somehow, I walked out with far more than I expected: a few affordable clothing finds, squishy toys for my nieces, a bag of indica gummies, and a custom candle I created at the DIY Candle Bar, where customers scoop colorful wax beads into jars and choose from scents like Peach & Raspberry Sangria, Saltwater Mist, and Sticky Buns.
With workshops, private events, and plenty of unexpected discoveries, MoonLeaf has become a go-to spot for birthdays, girls’ nights, and anyone looking to elevate their plans—literally and figuratively.
