More than two decades after first opening in Wayzata, the Watermark Stationery storefront has been rechristened Paper + Cloth. Watermark owner Beth Anderson has partnered with local philanthropist Berit Francis on the new concept, which, as the name suggests, includes an extensive selection of gifts and women’s clothing in addition to custom stationery and paper goods.
The store is stocked with unique gifts, such as fishing-lure cufflinks and needlepoint iPhone cases, plus cookbooks, Minnesota-themed gear from Sota Clothing and Lake Girl, prettily packaged fragrances and diffusers by Antica Farmacista, and neckties with preppy prints. An East Coast, nautical vibe thematically ties the store together—including brands with names such as Sail to Sable and Duffield Lane, bold stripes, and lobster-print pillows.
Since Anderson is also a wedding planner, she stocked the store with clothing that would appeal to her brides and their entourages, from bridesmaid and bachelorette dresses to mother-of-the-bride gowns. “My brides were always asking me where to find stylish mother-of-the-bride dresses, so I decided to source them myself,” she explains.
Fans of Watermark will be pleased to hear that Paper + Cloth continues to carry many of its predecessor’s custom stationery and paper goods, including stylish office supplies from local brand russell + hazel and stationery from Minneapolis letterpress shop Printerette. If you stop in for a letterpress card, you might also find a gift to go with it—and maybe even a little something for yourself.
