One of the Twin Cities’ premier holiday events is the Charles Dickens’ London Christmas and Fezziwig Ball at the University Club of St. Paul. Held December 21, 2018, the festivities began at the historic Burbank-Livingston-Griggs House, a mid-19th century Italian architecture masterpiece. As guests arrived, they were greeted by strolling musicians, flutes of champagne, a spread of delectable appetizers, and, of course, Mr. and Mrs. Fezziwig—characters from Dickens’ A Christmas Carol—themselves. When cocktail hour drew to a close, the party moved into the University Club. Perched on a bluff high above the Mississippi River, the twinkling view of downtown St. Paul was second to none. As more than 250 decadent table settings were filled, the executive chef and four trumpeters paraded through the mansion to present the Christmas roast. Following the feast, the Jerry O’Hagan Orchestra performed while guests danced and celebrated well into the night.
