1. Tropical Beach Party

Minnesota Zoo, Apple Valley

Runs through March 10, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This is one of the Minnesota Zoo’s most popular family events. If you are looking to escape the cold or suffering from a little cabin fever, head to the Zoo for this annual tropical event. Bring your children and their favorite sandbox toy and pail and let the kids play in one of the two king-size sand boxes. There will also be special rainforest-focused programing and weekend events. 2. Karneval Tanzparty

Germanic-American Institute, St. Paul

February 16-17, 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.

This is the German celebration of Karneval. Dancing will take place in the Ratskeller, with entertainment featuring cabaret performers Elektra Cute and Victoria DeVille, plus music from DJ Ben. There will be specialty cocktails and a food truck. Costumes are encouraged. Learn more.

3. Memories: The Music of Barbra Streisand

Twin City vocalist Patty Peterson brings the sound of Barbra Streisand this weekend, singing favorites including “People,” “Happy Days Are Here Again,” and “On a Clear Day,” joined by local favorites Mary Jane Alm and Aimée Lee. Learn more.

5. Monster Jam

U.S. Bank Stadium, Minneapolis

February 16, 7-9:30 p.m.

Motorsport fans will fill U.S. Bank Stadium to watch the monster trucks take over the field covered with dirt for Monster Jam. Super fans can arrive early and, for an additional ticket price, can meet the drivers. Learn more.
