Friday is the first official day of spring; therefore the calendar has officially given you permission to trade in your thoughts of snow and ice for ones of bright colors and blooming flowers. Bring those visions to life this weekend, with a trip to Macy’s Flower Show.
A more than 50-year tradition, in tune with this year’s theme, Art in Bloom, spectators will enter to see incredibly landscaped gardens that connect art with nature, each designed around genres such as Impressionism, Abstract, Art Nouveau, Renaissance and Surrealism, including the centerpiece: A 10-foot floral interpretation of the famed sculpture of David. The garden is composed of 100 varieties of flowers and several thousand plants from around the globe, ranging from azaleas, bulbs, grasses, and ferns, to roses, tulips, and daffodils, all of which are designed by Bachman’s.
There will be plenty of events surrounding the show as well, including culinary demonstrations (March 21-April 3), a floral arrangement class (March 26), artist marketplace (March 27 & April 3), brunch with the Easter bunny (March 28, 29 & April 4), a family fun day (March 28), and wine and canvas art class (April 2).
Plus, new this year is the Artista Impresso app, which if downloaded allows you to transform your photos of the flower show into stroke-filled Impressionist masterpieces. The app is only available for a limited time during the show, and you can download it here.
The show takes place in downtown Minneapolis’ Macy’s Eighth Floor Auditorium and runs March 22-April 4.
