Were you fascinated by the addition of break dancing (also known as “breaking”) to the 2024 Paris Olympics? If so, you should check out Red Bull BC One, the world’s largest global breaking competition, when it returns to Minneapolis on March 29.
The Red Bull BC One Minneapolis Cypher will be the first official event held at The Royalston Square, an immersive entertainment venue coming to the North Loop. Here, some of the best breakers from around the nation will compete for a spot in the National Final in Denver this May, followed by the World Final in Tokyo this November. According to a press release, spectators can expect a unique audio-visual experience not found at any other breaking competition.

The participants, known as b-boys and b-girls, will include specifically invited competitors from around the nation as well as six winners from the open prelims, taking place the night before—local up-and-coming breakers are encouraged to register for the prelim competition online.

“The Minneapolis Breaking scene has been thriving, so it’s exciting to bring back Red Bull BC One, especially with an important event like a national qualifier,” Jake Riley, host of the competition and owner/founder of the House of Dance Twin Cities, said in a statement. “Red Bull BC One has been helping to push Breaking forward and give it a major platform, and this is a chance for the Twin Cities to continue to be a part of this platform, and as a community to showcase our craft.”
The event will take place March 29 at 7 p.m., and tickets are available for purchase online.
